Globalization, localization, and language use/learning
Edited by: Prof. Farzad Sharifian and Prof. Sandra McKay
This special issue of the journal collectively explores the complex relationship that exists today between globalization, localization, culture and language use/learning.
The questions addressed include:

  • What are key aspects of globalization and locality that need to be examined in understanding individual language use?
  • What are the implications of globalization for notions of “competence” as part of language learning?
  • What should be the cultural basis of classroom materials and methodology?
  • What skills do ‘international communicators’ need as part of becoming ‘global citizens’?
